New and shiny things
Okay, I might have a thing for fluid layouts? And grey. And blue. I figured that I’d fill everyone’s screens up with all of this, just because I could. I still have things to iron out (the header image was clumsily made with a gradient and a picture of sunrise clouds I took last year … not sure if I like it entirely. *blink*). Thanks to Amanda, by the way, for a little PHP help that solved things just short of me ripping my hair out.
It’s two days and fifty minutes into the New Year, I’ve spent 50% of that time sleeping (I feel productive … no really, I do!), and I did this theme because I needed something to occupy time that wasn’t: 1) sleeping; 2) slow-progressing MSN conversations made thrice as slow by alcohol consumption on New Year’s Eve; or 3) repeatedly reading a forum thread about having blonde moments which, in addition to being good for a temporary lol, makes me feel somewhat better about myself.
Although, having said that, if you have any qualms with it, please let me know. IE 6 apparently doesn’t understand the max-width part of my CSS, and so renders this at 100% width anyway - although Firefox and Opera and everything else like me. *pat pat* Otherwise, things seem fine.
New Years Resolutions! You either love ‘em or hate ‘em, and personally I’m a bit of both. I almost never end up carrying through with them (but that isn’t only because I completely forget about them four days into January), but they’re fun to make at the time for the sake of feeling like an empowered individual. In 2008, I will:
- Lead a more balanced life. Despite the fact that uni will probably overwhelm me for the first … semester or so. At this stage, 2008 lifestyle will prospectively consist of uni, dancing, tech-stuff, part-time work, and sleep. Must try and achieve moderation in all five areas, even if it ends up just being a pipe dream.
- Eat healthier. I’ve been making this resolution repeatedly for the past four or so years, and yet I still impulsively rock up to McDonalds several times a week ordering a lovely diversity of artery-clogging shit that’s so. damn. bloody. easy. to eat. Probably why I’m unfit. Must change, damnit! Note: I do count Subway as healthy eating.
- Learn to drive. Properly. And no, my father teaching me to drive does not qualify as proper learning. I’d rather find a decent instructor who doesn’t spend 75% of the time yelling at me because I “indicated a bit too early before turning around that corner”. Not that I’ll be driving that much anyway …
That pretty much covers it. I give myself a maximum of two weeks before at least one of them goes down the drain. But at least they look good written down … really … It’s two days into the New Year and so far I’ve managed to stick to all of them; yes, I’m going by the day here. Dancing classes don’t start up again until the end of January (still unfit here), and uni doesn’t start until the end of February, so until then I’m just going to cruise along until all the demanding stuff hits. Oh, and to answer Belinda and Chien Yee’s questions on my last entry - I do Irish dance. Ergo, my upper body is as weak as a kitten, but my legs and feet are nimble and strong. Cue heightened sense of self-esteem!
So, dear visitors - what did you get up to to ring in the New Year?

[#] Jem, on January 3, 2008:
Oh no! Oh darn it! :( I hate it when people do these really nice dark layouts because it makes me want to do mine all dark and sexy again. DAMN YOU!
Yah, I like it. I love the blue on the grey (big fan of bright colours on dark greys) and I like the size font you’ve used.. suits the chunky style of layout. I even like the header - the cheesy repeating-ness brings back good memories ;) The only thing I don’t like is the way the entry titles turn to big bulky links when they’re visited. You need a font-weight: normal; in there somewhere..
I ate pizza to ring in the new year.. nothing exciting.
Reply: Fixed! I think…and hey, pizza isn’t all bad. :D You should go back to your dark ‘n’ sexy looks - personally I preferred them over your lighter stuff.

I did nothing for the New Year! Er… I ate scallops and bacon, and I watched “Disturbia,” which freaked me out, but Shia LeBoeuf is hot so it’s alright. Then, I watched a band on T.V. and then did the countdown, and then went to listen to my iPod in bed. I know! Exciting, right?
Happy New Year! And good luck with the resolutions!

You make me sound like some 1337 PHP Ninjaaaaaa, when really, I’m anything but. :P
[#] Chien Yee, on January 3, 2008:
Good luck with your resolutions :D
Oooh the layout is sexy ;) blue and grey = love. Haha
On New Year’s day I cooked, which was one of the rare moments that I do actually bother to fill up the tummies of my family members. And I spent the whole day shopping and cleaning my room lol and I spent it playing games with friends (in which I still lost, nonetheless)
Oooh Irish dance. That sounds so cool :D Few boys I know do actually dance here, which makes it boring since I always have to dance with a girl.
[#] Jem, on January 3, 2008:
@Amanda: of course you’re not. I am the only l33t PHP Ninja :P
[#] Rilla, on January 4, 2008:
To fix it in IE6 you could just use a little IE-hack:
* html { width: ###px; } (### being whatever you had for the max-width)
I like the colour scheme of this new layout and I really need to learn how to drive properly too. :P
Reply: Thankyou! You’re a lifesaver. :)

I rang in the new year with a packet of Tim Tams and a bottle of Mateus (a nice Portuguese wine I am fond of). Nothing exciting. Stayed up to get the messages of my hometown crew then went to bed. I live such an exciting life.

Sleep is still productive… your mind is still creating images and dreams! ^_^ heheh I hope you can achieve your resolutions, they’re pretty common but easy to lose sight of… wish you the best of luck for that!
[#] kay, on January 5, 2008:
Wow, such a simple layout. Damn, makes me want to make one. =_=”
Oh new year resolutions, I absolutely hate them; I never keep them anyways so there is really no point in dooming myself to fail…if I did write them down and I broke them…they would just be there…mocking me…

Kudos to eating healthy. I love Subway!! :D
And I love this theme ;)
[#] Sue, on January 13, 2008:
I love blue and grey layouts. I think yours is nicely made. A lot of people have had different layouts, making me want to change mine as well, but I have tried many times before, only ending in failures. I can’t think of a creative new design I suppose, and I’m a bit lazy on the execution. Those are all nice resolutions to have. I hope you can keep them for an entire year. I broke mine from last year during the first month XD.
[#] Stephanie, on January 15, 2008:
New Year? You need to tell me about uni - I’m stressing out so much, I had eye bags on the first day back at school =_=;; the long long long application process
Can I just say - replace subway with toast. or salad. Subway should not be staple for eating healthily lol though I do support your good intentions.
Reply: You’ll need to wait another month or so before I ramble to you about uni. :P And hey, I haven’t had McDonalds all year. Good intentions FTW!
[#] Paddy, on January 15, 2008:
If you wait until June 2009 I can teach you how to drive! Haha, in fact I could now. I’ve taken my friend in backstreets, and RUMOUR has it I’m a BRILLIANT instructor.
PS. Layout is v.cool
[#] Chanel, on January 16, 2008:
Haha, wow. You’ve managed to list some of the things I managed to forgot on my list of “things to do… eventually” - #1 and #3 - the “learning to drive” thing especially. I never have any time (or desire) to sit down and read the damn driving manual.
Eventually I’m going to have to get behind the wheel and stop shrieking every time a car comes too close to me. :P
